David Cronenberg’s “The Shrouds,” a chilling thriller centered on “dead bingers,” is set for its North American release after premiering at Cannes. Janus Films has unveiled the first full trailer, featuring Vincent Cassel, Diane Kruger, Sandrine Holt, and Oscar-nominee Guy Pearce.
David Cronenberg’s 23rd feature, “The Shrouds,” is deeply personal, inspired by the loss of his wife, Carolyn, to cancer in 2017. The film explores a tech innovator’s software that provides real-time decomposition feeds of the deceased. When his wife’s grave is vandalized, he uncovers a complex conspiracy involving her sister (Diane Kruger), her ex-husband (Guy Pearce), and international intrigue.
Storyline: Karsh, 50, is a prominent businessman. Inconsolable since the death of his wife, he invents GraveTech, revolutionary and controversial technology that enables the living to communicate with their dear departed in their shrouds. One night, multiple graves, including that of Karsh’s wife, are desecrated. Karsh sets out to track down the perpetrators.
“The Shrouds” premieres in Los Angeles and New York on April 18th, followed by a nationwide release on April 25th.
