Fair Play is both written and directed by American writer/filmmaker Chloe Domont, making her feature directorial debut with this film after a number of short films and TV work. Fair Play centers around newly engaged financial analysts Emily (Phoebe Dynevor) and Luke (Alden Ehrenreich), who’ve to keep their relationship a secret from their mutual employer, cutthroat hedge fund One Crest Capital. But when Emily gets an unexpected promotion over Luke, power games abound between the young couple, making it harder to maintain their professional façade in the office and pushing their relationship to the edge. What follows is a complex look at deeply rooted beliefs about gender dynamics in the workplace, but also in the most intimate relationships.
Fair Play opens in select theaters on Sept. 29 and streams globally on Netflix on Oct. 6. In the meantime, get to know the cast competing for the firm’s biggest investments.
Phoebe Dynevor as Emily Meyers
Emily Meyers is an ambitious financial analyst at the cutthroat hedge fund, One Crest Capital. Smart and driven, Emily excels among her mostly male colleagues, including her fiancé Luke, who becomes jealous when she lands a promotion to become a portfolio manager. Can she have it all, or will she be forced to choose between the love of her life and her professional success?
Alden Ehrenreich as Luke Edmunds
Luke Edmunds is a financial analyst at One Crest Capital and Emily’s fiancé. When Emily edges him out for a promotion, Luke begins to question whether she deserved to move ahead before him.
Eddie Marsan as Campbell
Campbell is the founder and boss at One Crest Capital, and he sees Emily’s potential to excel at the hedge fund. But his employees shouldn’t get too comfortable — Campbell has little patience for anyone who can’t deliver.
Rich Sommer as Paul
Paul is a portfolio manager at the hedge fund and Campbell’s frequent right-hand man while doing business. Though he seems kinder at times than some of the other men, like them, he’s focused on getting ahead.
Sebastian de Souza as Rory
Though overly confident at times, Rory is a portfolio manager at the fund who seems to have his finger on the pulse. He keeps a watchful eye on Emily and Luke.
Sia Alipour as Arjun
Arjun is another portfolio manager at the fund and a bit of a watercooler gossip with some of the analysts who work for him.
