Faraway Downs is the reimagining of the film Australia told in 6 parts centering on an English aristocrat (Nicole Kidman) and a rough-hewn cattle drover (Hugh Jackman) who join forces to protect the million-acre cattle ranch of her late husband.
Faraway Downs was originally released as Luhrmann’s 2008 film Australia, which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Costume Design at the 81st Oscars. Faraway Downs series was directed, produced (with Catherine Knapman and G. Mac Brown), and co-written by Luhrmann, alongside writers Stuart Beattie, Ronald Harwood, and Richard Flanagan, with production and costume design by multiple-Academy Award winner Catherine Martin.
Faraway Downs will debut on October 21, 2023 at the SXSW Sydney Festival and release worldwide on November 26, 2023 on Hulu and Disney+.
