Emily Deschanel as Dr. Suzanne Mathis

Emily Deschanel as Dr. Suzanne Mathis
As a hospital psychiatrist, Dr. Suzanne Mathis has enough on her plate already. With a demanding day job and three daughters at home, she’s not always the best at work-life balance. After meeting a new patient named Mae, Suzanne shelters the traumatized girl in her home, hoping to give her a safe place to stay while she awaits foster care placement. Little does Suzanne know that Mae’s presence is about to throw her family into chaos.
Deschanel garnered a cult following as Temperance Brennan in the long-running series Bones, and now she’s chasing a cult in the upcoming limited series.
Madeleine Arthur as Mae

Madeleine Arthur as Mae
Mae isn’t like other teenagers; she’s running away from a devil-worshiping cult. After being taken in by the Mathis family, she gets her first glimpse of safety and protection. As Mae grows closer with Suzanne’s daughter Jules and makes new friends at school, her sinister past quickly catches up to her.
If Arthur looks familiar, you’ve probably seen her as Chris, best friend to Lara Jean (Lana Condor) in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and its follow-up movies. She’s also starring in the upcoming Blockbuster comedy series, alongside Randall Park and Melissa Fumero.
Sam Jaeger as Peter

Sam Jaeger as Peter
While Suzanne is busy seeing patients at the hospital, her husband, Peter, is hard at work as a real estate developer. Peter puts on a brave face for his family, but little do they know that he’s struggling with his business. Although he’s devoted to his wife, he’s wary of Suzanne’s rescue mission with Mae.
Jaeger is known for his roles in The Handmaid’s Tale, Parenthood and Law & Order True Crime.
Xaria Dotson as Jules Mathis

Xaria Dotson as Jules Mathis
Jules feels invisible, both at home and school. It doesn’t help that her older sister, Helen, wants nothing to do with her, so when Mae arrives, she finds an opportunity to make a new bestie. She’s a wallflower who’s passionate about photography and puts everyone’s needs before her own.
Dotson isn’t new to the suspense genre. She starred as Evie in the horror series The Birch and was also in American Vandal.
Alisha Newton as Helen

Alisha Newton as Helen
Helen doesn’t have time for her younger sister Jules. She’s preoccupied with her boyfriend; they’re both applying to Ohio State University together. Although her mom and Jules see the good in Mae, Helen is skeptical. She can’t help but be weirded out by her mysterious ways and creepy demeanor.
Newton has appeared in TV and films for over a decade, including the Canadian series Heartland, Hudson and the upcoming Netflix series My Life with the Walter Boys.
Naomi Tan as Dani

Naomi Tan as Dani
If there’s anyone who should step into the role of Fanny Brice on Broadway, it’s Dani. As the youngest Mathis daughter, she’s sheltered from the ongoing tension among her older family members. Dani is obsessed with musical theater and is always belting out showtunes at any given moment. She’s able to easily connect with Mae because she understands what it’s like to be different, having been adopted at a young age.
Tan has appeared in The Baby-Sitters Club, Are You Afraid of the Dark? and Sweet Treats.
Bradley Stryker as Sheriff Wilkins

Bradley Stryker as Sheriff Wilkins
You don’t want Sheriff Wilkins following your trail. The shady figure watches over Amon County, Ohio, the place Mae escaped from. He has no intention of helping the cult escapee run free, however. Sheriff Wilkins is searching for the young girl and hoping to pull her back into darkness.
Stryker has starred in Animal Kingdom, iZombie and The Lizzie Borden Chronicles.
Gerardo Celasco as Detective Lopez

Gerardo Celasco as Detective Lopez
Coming from the Chicago PD, Detective Lopez is the lead investigator on Mae’s case. Although he experienced plenty of internal corruption in Chicago, Ohio is a whole different story as he’s constantly running into outside cryptic forces and roadblocks within his own department.
Soap opera fans will likely know Celasco as Miguel Lopez–Fitzgerald in Passions. He’s also appeared in How to Get Away with Murder and Swimming with Sharks.
